Overarching Artist Statement
Artist: Charlexia Witcher
To me, Art could mean so much to every individual. However, I believe anyone can create art with some type of motivation or inspiration to push them to do so. I believe art is used to express one's personal feelings and thoughts put onto a canvas creatively. My main inspiration throughout this semester was being able to experience different mediums to create different pieces with a variety of colors and textures. I was able to use different mediums such as tempera and acrylic paint, block print ink, plastic, clay, etc. Although some of my artworks was challenging, I was able to get them done with the feedback from my peers and teachers.
Final Reflection
- Discuss a project where you felt you overcame obstacles.
One project that I really struggled to complete was my ceramic bowl. I started off trying to use the spinning wheel but realized it was harder than I expected. The clay kept falling apart or not centered correctly. So then I decided to create my bowl using a technique called slump mode and created the textured by pressing in textured items. I had a huge amount of help from my teacher which is what got me through this project.
- What was your most successful project this semester?
I feel that my "Cracked Up" piece was my most successful project this semester. I think this was my most successful because it was my first time using tempera paint and being able to create different pieces where I just layered paint on top of paint. I was also able to create a variety of textures between smooth and rough. I was also able to create a lot of different patterns/designs.

- How did taking risks make you a better artist this semester?
taking risks made me a better artist by not being afraid to try new things and think outside the box every once in a while. I am happy that I was able to create as many things as I did in such a short amount of time. I would definitely be open to using more of these mediums in the future.
